Kurti: Serbia is interfering in the elections in Kosovo more severely than Russia in Europe, EU should sanction it

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, at today’s Government meeting, accused Serbia of interfering in the electoral process, just as in the parliamentary elections, in these local elections as well.
He also listed here the recent statements of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, as “and the ongoing actions of state and non-state actors in Serbia, which cannot be described otherwise than as interference in the October municipal election process in the Republic of Kosovo.”
“Promises of jobs, enticement through financial support, conditioning and blackmail with social benefits, and statements by Serbian state officials that only the Serbian List protects Serbia in Kosovo, as Miloš Vučević recently did and as President Vučić himself has done, are repeated methods of Serbia’s interference in the electoral process in Kosovo,” Kurti said.
Citing the report of the EU election observation mission in Kosovo that Serbia interfered in the February elections in Kosovo, Kurti said that Serbia’s interference in Kosovo is more serious than Russia’s interference in elections in Europe.
“The EU election observation mission in the parliamentary elections of February 9, 2025 had identified Serbian interference in our elections. Interventions by other states are forms of violation of democracy and sovereignty of that state. Despite all this, Serbia has not had any consequences from the EU, therefore Serbia is not changing its behavior. This interference that Serbia is now making is even more serious than that of Russia in Europe.”
Kurti ultimately demanded that the EU sanction Serbia.
“We call on the EU to condemn the intervention of official Belgrade and to sanction Serbia, a candidate country for EU membership, for actions that contradict the principles of good neighborliness and violate the Brussels Basic Agreement.” /Express/
