Members of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) arrested a 15-year-old boy in Zaječar today on suspicion of sending false reports of planted explosive devices to schools in the city via email.

“He is suspected of sending e-mail messages to the addresses of several high schools in Zaječar on October 3, 6 and 7, in which he falsely stated that explosive devices had been placed in the buildings, thereby causing anxiety and panic among citizens and students,” the statement reads.

The suspect is charged with the criminal offense of causing panic and disorder and will be brought to the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Zaječar with a criminal complaint.

The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that sending false reports about planted explosive devices is a criminal offense “which is severely sanctioned” and appealed to citizens not to do so.

The ministry announced on October 2 that bomb threats had been received at 807 primary and secondary schools that morning.
