QUINCY (WGEM) – For many seniors, navigating healthcare can feel overwhelming, but local volunteers and state legislators helped Quincy-area residents do just that Tuesday.
The Senior Adult Health Fair, hosted at the Kroc Center, saw the largest turnout in the event’s three-year history.
More than 25 vendors offered everything from free health screenings and vaccinations to estate planning.
Several state officials, including Sen. Jil Tracy, Sen. Neil Anderson, Rep. Randy Frese, Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer and Rep. Norine Hammond, also made appearances.
The event was filled with every resource needed for seniors to realize a healthier lifestyle.
“If you’ve got a question, this is where you need to be to navigate all the different services that make your life better, and especially for our senior citizens that have a one-stop shop. Everybody has enjoyed it,“ said Tracy.
Each year, the event aims to simplify the process of seeking help by bringing various agencies under one roof.
“It’s kind of your one-stop shop,” Davidsmeyer explained. “So you can, if you live in my district out in rural Adams County, you can come in and basically everything you need is right here. All the information under one roof.“
Cele Arnold, a local resident and event participant, said the Senior Adult Health Fair can connect people with resources they otherwise might not find.
“It’s very, very profitable to know that there’s things available that you don’t know about,” she said. “And all this is in one place, and I really appreciate it.“
The entire event, which included a meal, was free and open to the public.
Anyone unable to make it to Tuesday’s event is encouraged to contact their local state representative for a list of area vendors and resources.
