Cancun’s Sports Bar & Grill “just got bigger, better and closer to you,” with its expansion to North Tallahassee.

The new location which officially opened Sept. 21 offers the same vibes, drinks and late night festivities that patrons love but “with more space to celebrate,” on 6800 Thomasville Road.

The 4,432 square foot restaurant with outdoor seating was home to the former franchise restaurant owned by FAT Brands, Hurricane Grill & Wings. It shuttered its doors in Oct. 2023 after more than 10 years in its northeast Tallahassee location.

Despite the renovations needed to reopen the spot, including a three-to-four-month projected timeline for making repairs to both the kitchen and bathroom, Bruce Carpenter, owner of Avenue Realty Florida, told the Tallahassee Democrat in a previous interview that the property received “a lot of inquiries.”

In the end, Cancun’s Sports Bar and Grill came out on top and did a whole facelift before officially opening its doors.

According to a Facebook post from local construction company Baycrest Corporation who completed the project, Cancun’s now has all the bells and whistles it needs to offer that “spring break every day” feeling. Renovations include: custom lighting and connections to power 17 plasma television screens for game days, plumbing, gas lines for cooking equipment and a full kitchen installation.

The restaurant is decorated with white cushioned chairs and warm wood accents throughout. The greenery and plants add a refreshing pop of color into the new space.

This is Cancun’s second location in the capital, they also operate on West Tennessee St.
