Democratic League of Kosovo member Muhamet Hamiti has described Kosovo’s situation under European Union measures as serious, calling them economic sanctions.

According to Hamiti, the EU imposed “temporary and reversible measures” against Kosovo due to the policies of the Vetëvendosje Government.

“Due to the policies of the Vetëvendosje (VV) Government, the EU imposed “temporary and reversible measures” on Kosovo, a euphemism for economic sanctions, on June 28, 2023. It has been two years, three months and 10 days since the harsh sanctions were imposed on us. That is, 833 days to date. Over 600 million euros have been suspended for Kosovo for vital projects for its citizens,” Hamiti wrote.

Hamiti also accused VV MPs and ministers of simultaneously holding positions in violation of the Constitution, and that for this reason, the EU has suspended meetings with Prime Minister Albin Kurti and VV MPs at the Government offices since August of this year.

“Because they are illegally holding positions as MPs and ministers at the same time, in violation of the Constitution of Kosovo, the EU does not recognize Albin Kurti and his VV MP colleagues in the offices of the Kosovo Government since August of this year. Kosovo is under EU sanctions, now effectively also the US, at a time when the country’s leaders are Vjosa Osmani and Albin Kurti,” he wrote, among other things.

Hamiti ironized the fact that President Osmani and Prime Minister Kurti were honored the day before with the “Honorary Alumni” award from the University of Pristina.

“These two were honored yesterday, October 7, 2025, with the Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Pristina. They were told how much of an inspiration they are to future generations! Amazing!”, Hamiti concluded the post.
