Shoppers can purchase $25 Turkey Drive bags at area Rosauers starting November 3, with all proceeds funding meals and supporting Second Harvest.
SPOKANE, Wash. — KREM Cares Tom’s Turkey Drive aims to provide 8,500 Thanksgiving meal boxes to area families this holiday season. Each box will include a turkey, fresh potatoes, Franz dinner rolls, Franz stuffing mix, a gravy packet, canned vegetables, and a half-gallon of fresh milk, courtesy of Darigold and Washington Dairy Farmers. The meals are packaged for families to cook at home.
Tom’s Turkey Drive officially kicks off on November 3, when shoppers can purchase a $25 Tom’s Turkey Drive bag at area Rosauers stores. Each bag represents the meal that will be handed out to area families during the month. The drive will continue through Thanksgiving, and all proceeds will go first to funding Tom’s Turkey Drive meals. Any remaining funds support Second Harvest and the fight against hunger year-round.
Volunteers play a critical role in the program. Local Rosauers stores welcome volunteers to sell Tom’s Turkey Drive bags, helping raise funds for meals and supporting Second Harvest. Volunteers can also assist with meal distribution at food banks and mobile food markets across the region.
Meal distribution will take place throughout November, prior to Thanksgiving. Families seeking meals must sign up online at KREM.com starting at 9 a.m. on November 3. We will do our best to help everyone access a meal, but we know that the need is often greater than the resources. Over 20 food pantries and Second Harvest collaborate to provide a smooth distribution experience. Families with questions about sign-ups can contact Second Harvest at info@2-harvest.org or call 509-534-6678.
For those looking to support the drive in other ways, reusable Tom’s Turkey Drive bags will be available for $5, with all proceeds going to the cause. These bags are expected to arrive by October 21.
Several local businesses are key partners in making the drive possible, including Second Harvest, Rosauers, Numerica, Franz, Itron, Starbucks, Washington Dairy Farmers, Darigold, Sturm, and Findlay Downtown Toyota.
A special event, Tom’s Turkey Drive Day @ Starbucks, will take place on November 14 from 3–5 p.m. at participating Starbucks locations. Starbucks donates all proceeds from coffee drinks sold during a two-hour window. So, buy your favorite coffee drink and know you are supporting local families this holiday season. Customers can visit drive-thru lanes or in-store locations to participate, with all proceeds benefiting the annual turkey drive and Second Harvest.
