The Netherlands announced a support package for Ukraine totaling 200 million euros. The largest portion of the funds is earmarked for counter-drone systems and strengthening defense capabilities in response to Russian aggression. This decision was announced by Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans during a public address.
“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Defense on industrial cooperation. This is part of the ‘Building with Ukraine’ initiative, which aims to ensure that Dutch companies can invest in Ukraine, and conversely, Ukrainian companies can come to the Netherlands, form joint ventures and ramp up joint production,” said Ruben Brekelmans.

The Netherlands also plans to establish in Kyiv a coordinating cluster for technology companies seeking to enter the Ukrainian market. This is part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral industrial cooperation and support for Ukraine’s defense sector.
In addition, the parties are working on joint production projects in the defense sector, including unmanned systems. Earlier, Ukraine and the Netherlands signed a memorandum on joint drone production and have already discussed further steps and possible contributions to the initiative.
The leaders emphasize that Ukraine has a significant reservoir of knowledge and experience, while the Netherlands possesses technological potential and manufacturing capabilities that can enhance the value of products and expand production volumes. Such a partnership should create mutually beneficial conditions for both sides and significantly strengthen the defense potential of both countries.
The cooperation also demonstrates readiness to support Ukraine in defense while simultaneously developing bilateral technological and industrial engagement, which could form the basis for closer ties between the countries in the future.
Prospects for defense and high-tech cooperation
Further expansion of industrial and technological partnership is expected: from joint productions to leveraging advanced Ukrainian know-how and Dutch manufacturing capabilities, which could lead to the creation of new joint ventures, modernization of defense systems, and strengthening the bilateral economy.
