JAKARTA Poland’s important infrastructure has been targeted by more cyber attacks allegedly carried out by Russia. According to the Minister of Digital Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Krzysztof Gawkowski, Russian military intelligence has doubled their resources to carry out cyberattacks against Poland this year.

Gawkowski revealed that of the 170,000 cyber incidents identified in the first three quarters of this year, most were linked to Russian actors, while other cases were financially motivated such as data theft and other cybercrimes.

“Poland faces between 2,000 and 4,000 incidents daily, and of that number, about 700 to 1,000 cases we handle directly because it has the potential to pose a serious threat,” Gawkowski said.

He explained that foreign parties are now expanding their focus on attacks, not only on water and waste systems, but also on the energy sector. However, Gawkowski did not provide specific figures on Russian activity, nor methods used in Polish cyberspace. Information about Russia’s growing involvement, he said, came from Polish intelligence agencies.

Russia has consistently denied such accusations, and the Russian Embassy in Warsaw has yet to comment on the report.

Officials in Warsaw previously confirmed that Poland, as a strong supporter of Ukraine, was Russia’s main target among NATO member countries. They accuse the Kremlin of repeatedly trying to weaken Poland’s national security.

“Russian activity is the most dangerous, because it targets important infrastructure that supports normal life,” Gawkowski said.

He also revealed that on September 10, 2025, along with the Russian drone strike, there had been the largest cyberattack against Poland since 2022, the year the war began in Ukraine.

According to him, although the Polish government knew from an early age that the drone attack came from Russia, various false claims calling Ukraine the perpetrators flooded Poland’s cyberspace.

“To spread the disinformation, Russia reactivated the bots that have been dorman for months, even years,” concluded Gawkowski.
