The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) announced today that the national team will be led by youth team coach Zoran Mirković in the upcoming match in Andorra and thanked Dragan Stojković for everything he has done for the national team, after he offered to resign as coach following the defeat to Albania in the World Cup qualifiers.

Serbia lost to Albania 0:1 in Leskovac last night in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and Stojković announced after the match that he had offered his resignation to the leaders of the Federation and that he would not travel to Andorra for the match to be played on Tuesday evening.

“The Serbian A national team will be led by our young national team strategist Zoran Mirković, who joined the national team in Niš on Sunday morning, along with members of the coaching staff Strahinja Pandurović, Lazar Tomić, Aleksandar Kirovski, Dejan Odavić and Bogdan Milićević,” a statement on the FSS website reads.

Immediately upon returning from Andorra, on Friday, October 17, the Executive Board of the Football Association of Serbia will meet, which will make further decisions regarding changes at the helm of the national team in accordance with its jurisdiction and standard procedure.

“The Football Association of Serbia expresses its gratitude to Dragan Stojković for everything he has done in the past four and a half years at the helm of the national team, primarily in qualifying for the World and European Championships, as well as winning first place in Division B of the League of Nations and maintaining its status in the elite ranks of European football,” the Federation said in a statement.

Serbia is third in the Group K standings with seven points from five matches, while Albania is second with 11 points and a match in hand.

England is in first place with 15 points from five matches, Latvia has played six matches and won five points, and last-placed Andorra has one point from six matches.

The top teams from each group will qualify directly for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico next summer, while the second-placed teams will play in a play-off.
