Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced Greece’s participation in the Gaza peace summit, taking place on Monday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

“Tomorrow I will be in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for the signing of the agreement. Greece is one of the European countries that will be present, along with Cyprus,” Mitsotakis said during his weekly review on social media.

The prime minister described the agreement as historic, emphasizing that it creates a new opportunity for peace in the Middle East.

“For the first time, a realistic prospect of peace is being created in the wider region,” said Mitsotakis, who also credited US President Donald Trump for this initiative.

Mitsotakis added that Greece stands ready to assist in implementing the agreement.

“We are in constant dialogue with all our partners and allies in the region, and we are ready to contribute actively so that this agreement moves forward and does not remain just words.”

Egypt will host an international summit in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza, an Egyptian presidential spokesperson said on Saturday.

The summit will be attended by more than 20 leaders, including US President Donald Trump, the spokesperson added in a statement. [Kathimerini, Reuters]
