The next Italy manager odds has seen Roberto Mancini installed as the favorite to replace Gennaro Gattuso in the dugout.
Although Gattuso was only appointed in June – and has won his opening three games – doubts remain whether he is the right man to oversee the Azzurri’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
That of course, if the four time winners actually qualify for the tournament. A third successive play-off is on the horizon owing to Norway’s dominance in Group I.

Roberto Mancini Identified As Prime Contender For Italy Job
Roberto Mancini has been installed as the new favorite to replace Gennaro Gattuso should Italy fail to qualify for a third successive World Cup finals.
According to FootItalia’s traders, Mancini is available at +300 to return to the nazionale team’s dugout. He previously held the role between 2018 and 2023.
During his tenure, the Azzurri won Euro 2020 but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Mancini saw his reputation take a nose dive having lost the play-off for the tournament in Qatar to minnows North Macedonia.
However, his victory over England in 2021 still resonates highly among the FIGC. Mancini boasts a wealth of experience at club and international level and he is hotly tipped to retake the reins should disaster strike.
Would Vincenzo Italiano Make A Suitable Gennaro Gattuso Replacement?
Although Vincenzo Italiano extended his Bologna contract in the summer after winning the Coppa Italia, he is also favorably priced to take the Italy job should it become available.
Italiano is widely respected after his successes with the Rossoblu. He also led former club Fiorentina to the Europa Conference League final in 2023 and 2024.
Tactically, Italiano typically adopts a 4-3-3 formation and encourages a highly dynamic and attacking style of play. Something of which could help the Azzurri thrive.
Perhaps that is something of which has been lacking in recent years. With his reputation growing, Italiano’s next natural step could be to take the nazionale job.
Daniele De Rossi Is In The Running For Azzurri Role
Another name that is in strong contention is Daniele De Rossi. The Roma legend and soccer hard-nut is also a free agent which offers bettors plenty to ponder.
Not only that, De Rossi tasted World Cup success alongside Gennaro Gattuso with Italy in 2006. However, his managerial career has only seen him oversee 47 games.
He led boyhood club Roma to the 2023-24 Europa League semi-final. His efforts were rewarded with a new contract but a poor start to last season saw him dismissed.
Nonetheless, his passion and experience in international soccer – whereby he won 117 caps – offers temptation and he has a generous price of +600.
Commentary: FootItalia spokesman Ben Horlock reacted to the ‘Next Italy Manager Odds’ saying:
“Roberto Mancini is the prime candidate to replace Gennaro Gattuso at +300. His previous spell saw the Azzurri win the 2020 European Championship which was their first major honor since the 2006 World Cup.
“Vincenzo Italiano is also a strong contender who can be backed at a handsome +500. His efforts at Bologna have certainly not gone unnoticed.
“Meanwhile, Daniele De Rossi – who is priced at +600 – knows what it takes to win so his name is well worth considering if Gattuso does leave.”
