WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown City Council candidate Pete Monaco says the city needs to get serious about making cuts.
The city has seen tax rate hikes of 9-percent and 7-percent over the past two budgets.
At the 7News Digital News Desk Tuesday evening, Monaco said that pattern cannot continue.
He says a 2 to 4 percent increase would be acceptable going forward, but spending needs to be reined in to get to those numbers – and that may require hard decisions on cutting staff size.
When it comes to making those calls, he says his time on various boards and working in the city make him stand out.
“When it matters most, experience matters. My opponents don’t have the experience that I have,” Monaco said.
Our interview with Monaco was live streamed Tuesday evening.
We will have live interviews with all four candidates ahead of the election.
The next will be Thursday night at 6:45 PM with Shane Garrabrant.
