An American family who moved to Italy say they finally feel “relief” sending their daughter to school without worrying about her safety. Carla and Brian Hogan Stewart left California with their two young children in August 2024 after rising costs and political tension became too much. They now live in Bologna, where they feel safer, more financially stable and part of a stronger community. Carla said it’s a “massive relief” not to think about school security or gun violence every morning.
