Over a period of ten weeks, a total of €228,581.98 was raised in aid of those suffering in Gaza through a Caritas fundraiser.
In a press release on Wednesday, Caritas Malta said it coordinated the fundraising campaign at the request of the Bishops of Malta and Gozo. The donations came from parishes, religious communities, companies and individuals from Malta and Gozo.
The funds collected were passed on to Caritas Internationalis, which since 2023, together with its partners, has supported over 1.7 million people in Gaza through the food provision, shelter, water, financial assistance and psychological support.
Director of Caritas Malta, Anthony Gatt said the organisation remains committd to continuing its work and responding, through Maltes society, whenever an emergency call arises.
“Caritas Malta is grateful for the support shown by the Maltese and Gozitan people for this appeal. The amount collect will allow further work to be done to support these vulnerable people in Gaza.”
Earlier this year, a total of €31,485 was also raised for people in Myanmar following the powerful earthquake that struck the country last March. This fundraising campaign was also coordinated by Caritas Malta at the request of the Bishops of Malta and Gozo.
