Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes might soon make an unexpected appearance on the international stage — wearing the jersey of Slovenia alongside Luka Doncic.
The 25-year-old big man has reportedly started the process of obtaining a Slovenian passport, opening the door for a potential debut in next summer’s FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Speaking after Los Angeles Lakers’ recent preseason loss to Dallas Mavericks, Hayes revealed his intentions in a lighthearted tone:
“Luka’s my guy. We’re working on getting that Slovenian passport so I can hoop with him next summer”, said Hayes according to Basket News.
Hayes re-signed with Los Angeles Lakers this offseason on a one-year contract that includes a no-trade clause. Last season, he averaged 6.8 points and 4.8 rebounds across 56 games, starting in 35 of them
