HANOVER PARK, Ill. (WLS) – A police officer in Illinois is now in ICE custody after officials say he was in the country illegally.
The Department of Homeland Security says Officer Radule Bojovic, who is from Montenegro, overstayed his tourist visa, which reportedly expired in 2015.
DHS says Bojovic was encountered during a targeted enforcement action, part of Operation Midway Blitz.

Some Hanover Park residents said they have serious concerns over how Bojovic was employed by the police department.
The village board president cautioned the community to consider the facts, saying the village confirmed Bojovic was legally authorized by both the state and federal government to work in the U.S.
“Background checks performed by the FBI and Illinois State Police revealed no criminal history. If Officer Bojovic did not hold federal work authorization, he would not have been hired,” the board president said.
The village also said Bojovic’s immigration status allowed him to carry a firearm on duty.
“The bottom line is we performed all necessary due diligence and followed the law throughout the hiring process,” the board president said.
