Danish wind power company Vestas has halted the development of a planned factory in Szczecin, Poland, which was to manufacture rotor blades for offshore wind turbines, according to reports in the Financial Times, among others.
The decision is motivated by lower-than-expected demand for offshore wind power in Europe.
The factory was scheduled to open in 2026 and create around 1,000 jobs. Vestas has stated that the investment may be resumed if the market strengthens. No financial details have been provided regarding the shelved plans.
The market for offshore wind farms has been struggling recently. Several large Swedish farms have been put on hold due to objections from the military, and in the US, President Donald Trump has shut down major projects.
