I live alone in a cold city, these days when I return it’s already dark, it’s cold at home because the area is humid and you always have to keep things open and circulate. On bad days one of the first things I do is: close everything; change quickly – hoping the friction of the tissues will help me counteract the cold that tries to infiltrate my bones -; turn on the heater and start a good movie, or "little film" as my grandmother would have said.

Il "little film" in the background it was mandatory in my grandmother’s house, where there was never a shortage of work to do. We peeled potatoes with Rai 3, Rai Movie or even Italia 1, any channel that broadcast cinema. Today mashed potatoes are still my comfort food – even though I have discovered the joys of instant mashed potatoes – and the memory of those dark, long afternoons lives on for me in the same recorded voices and images on the screen that warmed them then.

Of course, my tastes have changed: I’m working on my movie list "lukewarm" in fact and in function. They are simple films, either because of an execution so clean that the artist’s hand cannot be seen, or because they simply don’t take themselves too seriously. Films that I have seen more than five times, and that I don’t feel I have to follow when they go.

Little films like dear acquaintances, which warm and color the air.

Here in the photo and below I put some of mine but I’m curious, does anyone else use films like this? I know there are those who also do it with series, I only succeed with self-contained video content over the course of a couple of hours.

We share some tips to beat the cold: internal and external! 😉
