With holiday season quickly approaching, it’s not to soon to start making plans and preparations for this often-busy time of year.
The 9th annual Carson Valley Turkey Trot takes place Nov. 27 with a 5k fun run-walk and Kids’ Turkey Dash at Minden Park. Open to all ages, this Thanksgiving morning fun run has more than 600 participants each year and supports the Carson Valley Community Food Closet’s mission to achieve food security in Douglas County and help local families in need (thefoodcloset.org).
The Kid’s Turkey Dash takes place at 8:30 a.m. and is open to participants aged 1-12. Kids can run a lap (or more) around the park with the help of the Thanksgiving turkey just before the main event gets underway at 9 a.m.
There’s also a virtual 5k participation option for those who can’t make it to the day-of event. Virtual participants can walk, hike, jog, or run in a location of their choosing anytime from November 1-28 (treadmill miles count, too).
Cost is $30 per person (plus $2.80 signup fee) for either the virtual or in-person event and $20 (plus $2.20 signup fee) for the Kids Turkey Dash. If online registrations are full, same-day registration will be available starting at 7:30 a.m.
Sponsorships help make the event a success, and opportunities are available for businesses and organizations interested in supporting the annual Turkey Trot. Visit thefoodcloset.org/about-1 for more information, to register online, or learn more about sponsoring the fun run.
Trunk or Treat this weekend
It’s time to get spooky 4-7 p.m. Saturday, as the annual Ranchos Trunk or Treat returns in the Sierra View Lanes parking lot, 1281 Kimmerling Road in Gardnerville.
Presented by Jennifer West-Fredrickson of Coldwell Banker Select and The Grill Next Door restaurant; and sponsored by many local businesses, organizations, and volunteers, the event offers a fun and family-friendly Halloween celebration for the whole community.
Festivities include games, prizes, arts and crafts, entertainment, food trucks, numerous vendors, and of course, candy. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
West-Fredrickson also said Dance Workshop has a fantastic performance planned and thanked Sierra View Lanes and the Tillman Center’s surrounding businesses (including Valley Larder, Bayou Bites, and Jethro’s) for generously sharing their parking lot space to accommodate the event.
