Hunters and fishers have agreed to work together to lobby to protect and uphold their traditional practices.

The memorandum of understanding signed between the Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) and the Federation for Maltese Recreational Fishing Clubs (MFF) pledges collaboration and support in safeguarding and promoting practices that make sustainable use of wildlife resources.

“This agreement confirms the shared commitment of the FKNK and the MFF to work together in promoting and strengthening a culture of respect towards nature and the environment, while ensuring that the traditional practices continue to be carried out responsibly and sustainably,” the FKNK said in a statement on Saturday.

“Through this agreement, the two federations will be able to cooperate on joint initiatives, exchange knowledge and experience, and support each other in consultative and legislative processes at national and European level that affect their mutual interests,” it added.

The FKNK said the two organisations share common objectives and that the MOU would strengthen members of both communities and “contribute to a more integrated approach towards the use and conservation of biodiversity in Malta.”
