Yesterday in Ħaż-Żabbar, history (and a whole lot of soup) was made during Bonġu Malta, as locals cooked up the largest pumpkin soup ever recorded in the Maltese Islands.

The record-breaking soup was prepared in a giant pot measuring 77 centimetres in diameter, 70 centimetres high, and filled to a depth of 33 centimetres, resulting in a whopping 154 litres of pumpkin soup.

The impressive culinary feat was a joint effort between two local band clubs, the Società Filarmonica Maria Mater Gratiae Żabbar and the Għaqda Madonna tal-Grazzja Banda San Mikiel, proving that when Żabbarites join forces, great (and delicious) things happen.

Beyond setting a new national record, the event was also a celebration of community spirit, teamwork, and of course, Maltese creativity in the kitchen.

And yes, according to those lucky enough to grab a taste, the soup wasn’t just massive, it was bnina mmens.
