The reporter here made a grief bot of himself and then showed it to some family members, and then goes on to talk about the rise of grief tech especially in China. I think it's interesting how the technology is finding an audience in a country and region where low birthrates, high adaption of technology, and an epidemic of loneliness means that people are turning to grief bots for comfort.

Submission statement –
Came across this short doc and found it interesting and unsettling – the rise of grief bots that can mimic deceased loved ones. I can think of all the ways in which it might be used: if you never got to say goodbye to someone before they passed away, or if you want to hear their voice when you wish you had their advice, the potential reasons go on and on. Or imagine if, instead of writing a memoir, you created a grief bot for yourself so that your loved ones and future descendants can speak to you and learn about your life? This could really blur our understanding of and relationship with death and coming to terms with it, and could have a lot of psychological and societal implications. I’m curious to know people’s honest thoughts, whether they’d try it or not.
Black Mirror is closer to reality every day these days it seems. I get that people will try this, and some people will get help from it, but in my mind you need to let go instead of clinging on to past loved ones.
Like, imagine someone obsessed with a breakup hooking their chat history with an ex to a model and using that to ‘cope’.
I think I like this better than the legion of grifters who will pretend to speak to your dead relatives for a hefty fee.
If anyone makes one of these for me. I’ll get back, and I’ll posses the robot and haunt them until both of us are exhausted.
