Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali congratulated Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani after Syria officially recognized Kosovo’s independence.

In a post on the social media platform X, Spiropali said Kosovo is steadily gaining its rightful place in the international community. She emphasized that Kosovo’s progress comes from the determination of its people and institutions to build a democratic and developed state. At the same time, she noted that strong support from friends and partners has helped advance its recognition and statehood.

Spiropali also thanked His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, for his support in achieving this milestone.

She expressed confidence that, recognition after recognition, Kosovo will continue to secure its well-deserved place among the world’s nations. “Once again, congratulations, Kosovo,” she wrote.

Syria’s recognition is the third this year, following those by Sudan and Kenya. Previously, Israel was the last country to recognize Kosovo in 2021. With this latest decision, Syria becomes the 120th state to recognize Kosovo’s independence.
