The MSC Magnifica has officially entered drydock at the Palumbo Malta Shipyard for a major refurbishment that marks a new chapter in the ship’s history and highlights MSC Cruises’ ongoing commitment to passenger comfort and innovation. The extensive enhancement project is part of the company’s broader investment in redefining onboard luxury and delivering a richer travel and tourism experience across Europe and North America. Under the supervision of MSC Cruises’ technical department, this ambitious upgrade will introduce the brand’s signature MSC Yacht Club to the ship, along with several new dining venues, wellness zones, and leisure facilities. Once completed, the renewed MSC Magnifica will set sail across Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and later embark on the prestigious 2027 MSC World Cruise, offering travelers an elevated level of exclusivity and sophistication at sea.
A Strategic Investment in Guest Experience
The ongoing refurbishment of the MSC Magnifica reflects MSC Cruises’ long-term strategy to expand its premium offerings and reinforce its reputation for exceptional hospitality. The company has emphasized that these upgrades are designed to create a more refined, personalized, and comfortable environment for passengers.
As part of the program, the MSC Magnifica will undergo significant modifications that align with the cruise line’s vision for modern luxury. The highlight of the refurbishment is the introduction of the MSC Yacht Club — an exclusive, all-suite enclave that delivers a ship-within-a-ship experience. This private area, already featured on the fleet’s newer vessels, offers a range of high-end amenities, including butler service, a dedicated lounge, private pool areas, and fine dining options reserved solely for Yacht Club guests.
By bringing this concept to the Musica Class ships, MSC Cruises aims to bridge the gap between classic design and modern comfort, ensuring that passengers on these vessels enjoy the same elevated experience found on the line’s newer flagships.
Details of the Refurbishment in Malta
The Palumbo Malta Shipyard, located in the heart of the Mediterranean, has become the focal point of this transformation. The MSC Magnifica is the first of two Musica Class ships to enter drydock for extensive upgrades. The work being undertaken is a combination of structural expansion, interior redesign, and technological enhancement, all managed by MSC Cruises’ in-house technical team.
Among the most notable additions are 63 new suites, including luxury accommodations within the new MSC Yacht Club area. The refurbishment also introduces two specialty dining venues — the Butcher’s Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar, both known for offering premium culinary experiences that celebrate global flavors.
The ship’s wellness and fitness facilities are being comprehensively upgraded as well. The MSC Aurea Spa will be expanded and redesigned to create a more tranquil retreat, while the Technogym Fitness Center will feature the latest in fitness technology. New spaces such as a Gentleman’s Barber, workout studios, and an enhanced outdoor Aurea area will add even greater diversity to the onboard lifestyle options.
All construction and design work is expected to be completed by December 2025, allowing the vessel to resume operations in time for its European sailings in spring 2026.
MSC Poesia to Follow with Similar Enhancements
Following the completion of MSC Magnifica’s transformation, the MSC Poesia will enter the same Malta shipyard in February 2026 for her scheduled upgrade. The sister ship will receive similar improvements, including her own version of the MSC Yacht Club, featuring 69 suites, an All-Stars Sports Bar, and upgraded wellness facilities mirroring those on the Magnifica.
Once her refurbishment is complete, MSC Poesia will rejoin the fleet for her highly anticipated Alaska debut in May 2026, marking a milestone for MSC Cruises as it expands its luxury offerings to new destinations.
Reimagined Itineraries for 2026 and Beyond
With the completion of the refit, the MSC Magnifica is scheduled to begin her new season from Warnemünde, Germany, on May 16, 2026, setting course for Northern Europe. Her itinerary includes visits to Denmark, the Baltic States, Scandinavia, and Finland, giving travelers the chance to experience some of the region’s most scenic and culturally rich destinations.
Later in the year, the ship will reposition to the Mediterranean, offering three- to eight-night voyages to ports including Barcelona, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Marseille. These itineraries will allow guests to explore Europe’s most iconic cities while enjoying the renewed luxury onboard.
Following her Mediterranean voyages, the MSC Magnifica will embark on the 2027 MSC World Cruise, a grand journey that showcases MSC Cruises’ commitment to global exploration and premium travel experiences.
Meanwhile, MSC Poesia will operate seven-night sailings from Seattle between May and September 2026, taking passengers through the majestic landscapes of Alaska. In the winter of 2026–27, she will transition to Miami, offering roundtrip Caribbean itineraries that include ports of call in Jamaica, Colombia, Costa Rica, Aruba, Curaçao, and Belize.
Strengthening MSC Cruises’ Global Footprint
These parallel refurbishments represent more than just ship upgrades; they signal MSC Cruises’ broader ambition to enhance its footprint across multiple continents. By investing in luxury features like the MSC Yacht Club, state-of-the-art dining experiences, and comprehensive wellness amenities, the company continues to attract a new generation of travelers seeking comfort, exclusivity, and global exploration in one seamless experience.
The integration of new facilities on the MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia also demonstrates the cruise line’s emphasis on sustainability and operational excellence. Each refurbishment is carefully planned to extend the vessels’ lifespans, improve energy efficiency, and optimize guest capacity while preserving the ships’ signature Mediterranean-inspired style.
Looking Ahead
When the MSC Magnifica re-enters service in 2026, it will embody the next phase of MSC Cruises’ evolution—where refined aesthetics meet technological innovation and environmental responsibility. Its enhanced design and newly introduced luxury spaces are expected to redefine the passenger experience not only for European voyages but also for future world cruises.
Bookings for the MSC Yacht Club suites on both the MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia are now open, offering travelers early access to one of the most exclusive cruise experiences available. With both ships soon to feature a blend of sophistication, modern comfort, and world-class service, MSC Cruises is setting a new benchmark in global maritime tourism—anchored in Malta, powered by Italian craftsmanship, and sailing toward an even more luxurious future.
