First launched in 2021 with coins featuring the Dalmatian dog breed, the Indigenous Croatia coin series is designed to celebrate and represent Croatia’s native culture and identity. The latest coins focus on the Croatian Coldblood, an indigenous breed of horse that has been bred for centuries in this Balkan country, especially in the area around Sisak and other lowland areas. It was created by crossing domestic mares with breeds of heavy work horses, such as the Noriker, the Ardennes and the Percheron, with the aim of obtaining a strong, hardy and calm horse adapted to work in agriculture and forestry.

The Croatian Coldblood breed is recognisable by its robust build with broad chest, strong legs and muscular body adapted for heavy physical work. The Croatian Coldblood is included in the List of Native and Endangered Breeds of Domestic Animals in the Republic of Croatia, which encourages its breeding and preservation.

The gold and silver coins share the same design and are produced by the Croatian Mint at their facilities in Sveta Nedelja on behalf of the Croatian National Bank. Designed by sculptor Nikola Vudrag, the obverse side depicts the head of a Croatian Coldblood horse with a mane in semi-profile and facing right. Along the right rim is the inscription HRVATSKI HLADNOKRVNJAK (Croatian Coldblood). The obverse of the 100 euro gold and 8 euro silver coins features the head and mane of a Croatian Coldblood in brown and black dense colour.  The reverse design features a depiction of the Croatian Coldblood in stride and full stance. Above the primary design and along the rim is the text REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA with the denomination 100 or 10 EURO (gold) and 8 or 4 EURO (silver) along with the year of issue, 2025 shown near the right rim.
