Monaco vs Saint Quentin Preview

Monaco is currently in its best form since the start of the season, riding a five-game winning streak across both the LNB Pro A and EuroLeague. With a 5-1 record, they share the top spot in the standings with Le Mans, which comes as no surprise given the high expectations for a Monaco team that is clearly a step above the rest of the competition in terms of quality. Their only loss came against Chalon/Saone, 104-99, while they have defeated Paris, Asvel, Boulazac, Limoges, and Le Portel.

Head coach Vassilis Spanoulis finally welcomed a full roster just a few days ago after the team dealt with multiple injury issues. It’s also worth noting that in LNB Pro A games, key players like Mike James and Daniel Theis often sit out to stay fresh for EuroLeague action. Still, the results haven’t suffered, and it’s important that Monaco has already beaten its main domestic rivals, Paris and Asvel. Anything short of winning the title would be considered a disappointment. Elie Okobo has been making the most of his extended minutes, averaging 16.6 points per game, while Yoan Makoundou looked sharp in his first game back from injury, scoring 16 points and showing promising form, which gives Spanoulis more depth in his rotation.

Saint Quentin, on the other hand, can’t be satisfied with their start to the season, losing five of their six games and winning only once. A major reason for their struggles has been the absence of Jean-Philippe Dally, who was expected to be the team’s leader and top performer. Their only victory came at home against Gravelines, 86-74, while they suffered losses to Nanterre, Limoges, Chalon/Saone, Asvel, and Boulazac.

Saint Quentin has struggled offensively, averaging only 102 points per 100 possessions, but that should improve once Dally returns. Defensively, they’re not as bad as their record suggests, allowing 114 points per 100 possessions. In this situation, Nick Johnson stands out as the team’s clear leader, averaging 17.4 points and 5.2 assists in 28 minutes per game. Giovan Oniangue is the only other player averaging double figures with 10.5 points per game, while Jordan Caroline adds 9.5 points on average and still has room to improve, so he’s expected to raise his level as the season progresses.
