Israel’s former military prosecutor was taken to the hospital on Sunday morning after a suspected suicide attempt, Israeli media reported.

The Kan public broadcaster said that paramedics rushed to Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi‘s home after being alerted by her family.

According to Israel’s Channel 11, Tomer-Yerushalmi had ingested a quantity of sleeping pills.

The former army legal chief, who was conscious when medics arrived, was later transferred to the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv for further treatment.

Tomer-Yerushalmi is currently under a ten-day house arrest over the leak of footage showing Israeli soldiers raping a Palestinian detainee at the notorious Sde Teiman facility.

Yerushalmi was arrested on Monday and hit with several charges, including obstructing justice, fraud, breach of trust, and abuse of office.

A court ordered Yerushalmi released to house arrest on Friday. She was also barred from contacting other individuals connected to the incident involving the rpae of the Palestinian detainee, Kan reported.

Tomer-Yerushalmi disappeared for several hours last week, and fears were raised that she had attempted suicide. The former prosecutor was later found and arrested over the Sde Teiman leak case.

Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned last Friday after admitting she had approved the August 2024 leak of the sexual abuse footage – a leak which led to criminal charges against five soldiers and stirred an uproar, including riots by Israelis who attempted to break into military centres in defence of the accused soldiers.

Since the case began, the accused soldiers have made media appearances in Israel, with news channels appearing to portray the rape-accused men as heroes.

In Israel, outrage has focused on the leak of the video rather than the soldiers’ crime, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accusing Tomer-Yerushalmi of causing “the worst public relations disaster Israel has ever experienced”.
