Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić stated today that Serbia fully supports Ukraine in its process of accession to the European Union (EU) and that the parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries cooperate well on this and other issues.
In Kiev, during a visit to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), she spoke with its speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, and told reporters that Ukraine can count on Serbia when it comes to support in European integration.
Brnabić, according to Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starović, said that the Memorandum of Understanding between Serbia and Ukraine on EU accession has been finalized and that she hopes that the two sides will sign it soon.
She added that Serbia’s top government, including herself and President Aleksandar Vučić, has excellent communication with their Ukrainian colleagues.
Brnabić stated that Serbia has delivered a large amount of humanitarian and financial aid to Ukraine since the start of the war with Russia in February 2022, and that it is greater than the sum of the aid that has arrived to that country from the entire Western Balkans region.
She concluded that Ukraine is a friend of Serbia and can count on its help, and invited Stefanchuk to visit Serbia.
At a joint press conference, Stefančuk thanked Brnabić for the visit and said that he had discussed with her a large number of issues related to the relations between the two countries, including inter-parliamentary cooperation and the joint path towards EU membership.
“I believe there is great support and cooperation between our parliaments,” he added.
