Spain to turn down volume of very loud ES-alert phone warnings, German priest on Costa del Sol discovers he’s Himmler’s grandson, Barcelona to create anti-fake news unit and more news from Spain this Tuesday November 11th.
Himmler’s grandson living in Spain
An article in El País reports that Henrik Lenkeit, a Christian priest and life coach living on Spain’s Costa del Sol, discovered a year ago that he is the grandson of Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS and the Gestapo during the Hitler’s Nazi regime.
Himmler was partly responsible overseeing the murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust.
Lenkeit learned that his maternal grandmother, Hedwig Potthast, had been Heinrich Himmler’s lover and had two illegitimate children with him, one of which was his mother.
Lenkeit was in complete shock, not knowing about his familial link to one of the worst periods in German history. Now he’s writing a book and giving talks about his experience, as well as helping others. He sees it as a “mission” and “an obligation”.
The 47 year old has lived in Benalmádena, in Spain’s Málaga province, for seven years, after moving there from Mexico.
Spain to turn down volume of ES-alert phone warnings
Spain’s Interior Ministry plans to add a new “pre-alert” notification level to its ES-Alert, which is an emergency warning system sent to mobile phones.
The new alerts will have quieter “less insistent” tones and will be able to be turned off which users choose. These will be sent out during lower-risk situations. The ministry acknowledged the current alarm may be too loud for some people with mental health issues.
The ES-Alert only began initial testing phases in 2023 and still remains under development. Each region is responsible for issuing its own alerts.
