Considered one of the most important 19th-century photo books on Muslim Spain and the Middle East : over 200 photographs of archaeological and historical sites, gathered in 5 albums bound in period bindings. Extremely rare in this condition with the 5 albums still together and in period binding: only 50 copies were produced and many sets have been broken up, with albums sold individually or even as separate photographs. Only four photographs are missing in the present set, as well as the title page for the last volume.
Fewer than ten public libraries worldwide hold the complete set of five albums.
