MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Winter is on the way!

As you prepare for the colder temperatures, consider winterizing your home by checking a few items so you can save money.

Pete Seyfer and Megan Turner from Alliant Energy PowerHouse visited WMTV on Wednesday.

When it comes to smart thermostats, Megan encourages you to turn it down at night or before you leave the house because it will help you save money in the long run.

Another house item you want to check heading into winter is your furnace filter. Pete suggests checking your filter at the beginning of every month and writing a note of the date you change it.

They say being proactive about these things will help you save money this winter.
