Russia has petitioned the US Supreme Court for leave to appeal a ruling in favour of the former majority shareholders of Yukos Oil Company in proceedings to enforce awards worth US$65 billion – arguing that sovereign immunity applies because the claimants are really “proxies” for Russian oligarchs.
