KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – FIFA selects a hometown team to make sure athletes from around the world will get the best care available during World Cup 2026.

KC2026 announced the University of Kansas Health System is the official medical services provider for the event in Kansas City next summer.

The move means KU Health will be responsible for providing first aid to fans who attend a match at Kansas City Stadium during the tournament.

The health system will also be involved in developing and executing a public health plan for the tournament. Those areas include:

  • Preparing for event-related medical surges
  • Strategic responses to human-caused and natural disasters
  • Crucial mitigation efforts against heat illness
  • Addressing other issues

“As the Kansas City region prepares to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026, we recognize the extraordinary responsibility to support the health and safety of our communities and visitors alike,” Bob Page, president and CEO of the health system, said. “The University of Kansas Health System is proud to call the Kansas City region home. Together with KC2026, we look forward to sharing Kansas City and everything unique about our community with the world.”

Kansas City’s first World Cup match is scheduled for June 16. Practices and other events will begin weeks before that first match.
