“Macedonia will receive support in its efforts to advance higher education from Egypt, a country whose universities are rapidly climbing the global rankings, while bilateral cooperation in the field of science and research will be deepened.”
This was confirmed during the meeting between the Minister of Education and Science, Vesna Janevska, and the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Ajman Ashur, held yesterday in Cairo.
“The working group, composed of representatives appointed by the relevant ministries of both countries, will define concrete activities that will deepen cooperation and examine the possibilities for creating joint study programs with double degrees. The focus will be on higher education in the fields of medicine and technical sciences, with particular emphasis on computer engineering and agriculture.”
“Minister Janevska presented the changes that have begun in the field of higher education in Macedonia, emphasizing that a new legal solution is currently being prepared, while the effects of the reform plan are expected in the medium term of 5 years. She also focused on the significant increase in the budget for science and the financing of the increased number of scientific and research projects of interest to the state and the public, the approval and implementation of the State’s Smart Specialization Strategy, while also emphasizing that the Ministry has initiated a procedure for the establishment of the first state science and technology park, which will be under the jurisdiction of the state,” the Ministry of Education and Science said.
Minister Ashur presented the strengths of the Egyptian higher education system and the policies that help accelerate the advancement of state universities in international rankings.
He expressed his willingness to form a working body between the two countries this month, while next time a direct meeting will be held between the rectors of the six state universities of Macedonia and the rectors of the most prominent Egyptian ones, such as Cairo University.
He shared the national experience with the creation of science and technology parks and centers of excellence, which will be very useful for Macedonia to achieve the same goal.
