DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Crane Clean Energy Center in Middletown will be receiving a $1 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Constellation announced Tuesday.

The funds will reportedly go towards lowering the Constellation’s cost of financing reliable nuclear power across the grid.

Senator Dave McCormick commented on the loan, stating, “Today’s loan by President Trump and the Department of Energy is great news as it helps Constellation advance the restart of the Crane Clean Energy Center, while creating 3,400 new jobs and more than 800 megawatts of carbon-free electricity operating 24/7.”

Constellation said in a statement Tuesday that restarting the Crane Clean Energy Center will keep electricity prices in check and generate over $16 billion for Pennsylvania’s GDP.
