It will create a crisis of employment and it will drastically separate the classes effectively removing the lower middle class.
This is exactly what they want. They want a divide between those who have and those who have not — that way they’re easy to label and brandish. That way they’re easy to control.

I just read that leaked documents suggest Amazon might use robots and automation to replace up to 600,000 U.S. jobs by 2033. They’re looking to automate a big chunk of their operations while trying to keep things efficient and cut costs.
At the same time, Amazon says they’ve rolled out a couple of new systems meant to work alongside employees. Supposedly, the goal is to make work safer and less repetitive for us on the floor.
One of these robots, called Blue Jay, can handle multiple tasks at once in the warehouses. Amazon also claims these tools are supposed to help with ergonomics and open up more career paths for workers but I can’t help wondering what that really means for all of us.

Chinese companies are more advanced in their automation, both in traditional ways (the ugly single purpose robots) aswell as more advancd and much larger scale in the upcoming humanoid robots, where they are already recieving orders of thousands to replace workers in hard to automate tasks
Amazon is simply not gonna let china overtake them, the rest of the world will, by simple competition between countries and companoes, be forced to either adopt this model or fade into irrelevance

If I was an Amazon worker getting replaced by robots and seeing none of the profit from f my replacement, I would burn the factory to the ground. Good thing I’m not an Amazon worker

I mean…this is going to sound callous…but as someone who sends regular shipments to sell on Amazon, the robots honestly can’t do a worse job than what’s getting done now.

I don’t think corporations should be able to do this just because they have the money to. Unless they contribute enough to the people of our society, helping for our lives to be easier, taking away jobs that people need in an already terrible economy/world is only going to bring us more division and more problems if these companies don’t do more for the people who keep them in business.

600,000 jobs in total by 2033, not really some big shift in the trend to replace workers with machines since basically the industrial revolution.
So far there’s been no big breakthrough in robots that makes them particularly great at replacing humans. You can certainly continue to make more automated factories and there is some room for mostly factory robots not humanoid robots to get rid of some jobs but it’s not an amazing amount of jobs because while AI can do some cool stuff with art creation and stuff the robotic side is not that mature, and getting these things automated in the real world is a lot harder than people tend to project hence why you’re self driving cars are still pretty far from putting in Uber drivers out of business.
Someday humanoid robots will get good enough that you’ll see a significant increase. In the rate you can replace humans, but without the humanoid robots, you’re probably not going to see that big of an increase at any given time vs slow increases like this.
