WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Progress is being made toward a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, according to the White House. However, Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelenskyy says “much work” has to be done before anything is finalized.
President Trump is enlisting more manpower to get this deal inked.
Tuesday morning, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with Russian leaders in Abu Dhabi, while American counterparts held tandem talks in Geneva.
The big hangup here is that some view the current plan as too favorable to Russia.
It would include land concessions and military downsizing on Ukraine’s part.
Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, who sits on the foreign relations committee and grew up as an ambassador’s child, believe Ukraine is getting the raw end of the deal.
“We’ve seen the Trump administration do time and time again. Is throw the Ukrainian people under the bus and side with Vladimir Putin. And that’s exactly what they did. When they put forward that 28 point plan.”
To further complicate progress, Russia ravaged Kyiv Monday night with a barrage of missiles and hundreds of drone strikes, killing several people.
The White House remains optimistic they’ll hit that Thanksgiving deadline, With President Donald Trump saying during the annual turkey pardon that he believes a deal is very close. Others aren’t so sure.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying on X, “There are a few delicate, but not insurmountable, details that must be sorted out and will require further talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.”
