Somers Farkas has officially assumed her role as the United States Ambassador to Malta after presenting her credentials to President Myriam Spiteri Debono on the 26th November 2025.

The Virginia-born philanthropist and entrepreneur expressed her commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two nations.

Nominated by President Donald J. Trump in December 2024, Ambassador Farkas brings experience in philanthropy, business and public safety advocacy.

She has supported organisations including the Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA, the Police Athletic League and various military service clubs. Her previous roles include trustee of the New York City Police Foundation, Honorary Battalion Chief with the New York City Fire Department and advisor to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

As ambassador, Farkas will focus on expanding cooperation in several key areas: trade and investment, security and law enforcement collaboration, energy interests and the safety of U.S.

citizens in Malta. She emphasised her eagerness to work closely with the Maltese government, civil society and local communities to advance shared goals.

Following the credential ceremony, Ambassador Farkas highlighted the deep historical roots of Malta–U.S. ties, noting Malta’s role in America’s fight for independence and America’s early recognition of Malta’s sovereignty. “We are proud of our centuries-long friendship and shared democratic values,” she said.

She added that she looks forward to showcasing American and Maltese excellence through cultural exchanges, economic cooperation and continued diplomatic engagement. She also expressed a personal connection to Malta’s Catholic community, saying she is eager to attend Mass locally.
