Finland joins a maritime coalition led by the United Kingdom and Norway, tasked with supporting the development of Ukraine’s Navy.

The decision to join was made by Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen, according to official sources from the country’s Ministry of Defence.

“Finland has joined coalitions to develop defensive capabilities based on careful consideration of each specific case, always ensuring that our contribution is sufficient and effective and brings clear added value to the strengthening of Ukraine’s military capabilities”

– Antti Häkkänen

The Role of Finland in the Coalition

Currently, the coalition comprises a total of 17 countries.

Earlier, Finland joined coalitions on artillery, armoured vehicles, demining, and information technologies.

According to the working group of the Coalition for Demining Capabilities, by the end of 2025 eight battalions of demining units of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained and equipped with modern equipment.

Finland’s participation in the coalition underscores the international community’s efforts to support the development of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
