I’m guessing age is a significant confounder here – net worth typically changes a lot over the course of an individual’s life, and different ethnic groups have different average ages. Not that it explains all the effect, by any means, but it’s high on the list of things that should probably be controlled for to get a more accurate picture of what’s going on.

This is not what you think. These are households and not individuals. Lots of Asian households have 4 or more working adults in general. This skews the data.
