Slovenia vs Estonia Preview

Slovenia finished their EuroBasket campaign in the quarterfinals after losing to Germany, who later became the European champions. Entering the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers is a new challenge for the Slovenians, and they will do so with a significantly changed roster compared to EuroBasket, which was expected. Of course, the most important news is that in this first qualifying window we will not see Luka Doncic in the national team jersey, nor many other key players. The team has been rejuvenated, relying on what is available due to the overall situation in basketball. In a way, this is also an audition for future national-team activities and a chance for young players to prove themselves.

Head coach Aleksandar Sekulic remains in charge of Slovenia. The team will play games against Estonia and Sweden without Luka Doncic, but there are several interesting players such as Miha Cerkvenik, Gregor Glas, Alen Omic, Gregor Hrovat, Ziga Samar, and even young Stefan Joksimovic, who plays for Baskonia and will make his debut for Slovenia. Another debutant will be Tim Tomazic, a player of Ilirija. Slovenia has qualified for the FIBA World Cup four times so far, and they naturally aim to do the same again and be in Qatar in 2027.

Estonia also participated at EuroBasket, where they recorded four losses and one win. Their only victory came against the Czech Republic, 89–75. Before that, in friendly matches, they showed they can outperform some serious opponents, defeating Israel, Georgia, and Sweden, who later displayed a solid level of basketball. Even when playing with their strongest lineup, Estonia averaged around 70 points at EuroBasket, performed solidly on the boards with 34.2 rebounds per game, and struggled from beyond the 6.75 line, shooting a modest 31.3 percent.

The most important Estonian player at EuroBasket was Kristian Kullamae, known for creating for his teammates, but in the national team he also has to score, and he was their leading scorer with 13.8 points per game. He was followed by Artur Konontsuk with 11.4, and other notable players from the Estonian team include Matthias Tass, Janari Joesaar, and Henri Drell, who is proving himself in the Endesa League. Overall, this is a rather modest team, although considering that Slovenia is not playing anywhere near its strongest lineup, Estonia will try to put up a serious fight. We also remember them from their EuroBasket game against Serbia, where the Eagles comfortably handled the job.

Slovenia vs Estonia H2H

Slovenia and Estonia have faced each other three times so far, with Slovenia winning twice. Estonia took the most recent matchup with a 79–78 victory.

Injuries and Suspensions

Slovenia will be without Luka Doncic, Aleksej Nikolic, Edo Muric, Klemen Prepelic, and Luka Scuka. Estonia will be without Siim-Sander Vene.

Where to Watch Slovenia vs Estonia?

Slovenia vs Estonia Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Even though Luka Doncic is not playing, it’s clear that this Slovenian roster still has more than enough quality to handle a weak Estonia. The head coach remains the same, there are some older and more experienced players like Omic who can make a difference under the basket, and there are also younger players who will fight hard to prove themselves both for the present and the near future. The Slovenians have plenty of motivation, and that’s why we’re tipping them with the handicap.
