Poland Could Replace South Africa at 2026 G20 Miami Summit

According to Ukrinform, this is mentioned in Bloomberg’s Thursday publication Bloomberg.

Poland could join the ranks of countries that will replace South Africa at the G20 summit in Miami next year after Donald Trump announced that he would not invite the Republic of South Africa to the meeting.

According to sources, the decision on participation could be made by Trump himself, contrary to the established Group of Twenty consensus, given that the summit will take place at the private Trump National Doral Golf Club.

Such a decision creates a dilemma for other participants: whether to attend the summit or decline participation in solidarity with South Africa, risking trade restrictions from the United States.

The Role of South Africa and the Future G20 Format

South Africa has voiced concerns about the possibility of being fully excluded from the G20. Changes to the bloc’s membership are possible only with the consensus of all members.

They also note that it is unclear how the United States intends to enforce a ban on South Africa’s participation or that of other countries – perhaps delegations simply will not be issued visas.

Among the countries that could win Washington’s backing is Poland. It has long sought to join the G20 format, and Trump has already invited President Karol Nawrocki to the Miami summit in an unclear capacity.

This year Poland surpassed the trillion-dollar GDP threshold and has repeatedly received U.S. support for defense investments, largely through purchases of American weapons.

The United States itself did not participate in the latest G20 summit, which took place on November 22–23, 2025 in Johannesburg, underscoring the uncertainty of the future format.

In summary, the question of Poland’s participation in the future Miami summit will remain a topic of active negotiations between Washington and European partners in the coming months.
