Eyal Eshel, whose daughter Roni was killed on October 7 at the Nahal Oz base, and is a founding member of the October Council, spoke at the Hostage Square rally in Tel Aviv.
Eshel said that every day that passes without the two hostages still remaining in Gaza returning, “is a national disgrace.”

“But instead of seeing a leadership that is determined to finish this story, we see leadership determined to run away from it. The government of Israel is doing everything possible to prevent the establishment of a state commission of inquiry,” Eshel said.
“This is not just fear; it is governmental manipulation. The same government responsible for the failure of October 7th is not ashamed to set up its very own committee, a committee of consent – and I ask, whose consent? A committee whose own members should themselves be investigated,” he blamed, regarding the probe recently announced by the government.

“The fight to free the hostages was led by families, and today, two years on, a whole nation wants to know why they were kidnapped, why they were abandoned, and who failed to save them when some walked into Gaza and did not come back. We demand a state commission of inquiry, not a political one,” Eshel added.
