Ну РФ не заинтересована в успешных соседях. Когда-то Беларусь будет свободной!

This guy is so smug in his “analysis”. What if I told you that Belarus’ biggest mistake wasn’t “wrong reforms”, but giving up nuclear weapons after independence? If we’d kept nukes, we could charge whatever we wanted for transit through our centrally located piece of real estate without worrying about invasion. We could’ve been a second Switzerland – no need for the mountains to hide in.
And by the way, it’s not even too late in theory: there are Russian nukes stationed on our territory right now. All it would take is seizing them and putting them under Belarusian command. Try running your “Belarus is doomed by geography” take after that.

Romania and Belarus look almost identical on the GDP per capita PPP graph, except that Belarus began to lag by 3 years in 2014-2017 due to sanctions when both Belarusian and Russian ruble as well as the Ukrainian hryvnia fell in price by 2 times.
But I don’t think a 3-year delay can be called “missed chance.”
As a Romanian I must say we are one of the most corrupt and underdeveloped countries in the EU. Poland and Czech Republic are at least 10 years ahead in terms of development and democracy.
