The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has confirmed that in the early hours of this morning, Nexhat Pireva, a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo from Kamenica and a former member of the Kosovo Police for about 14 years, was arrested by Serbian authorities at the Dheu i Bardhë border crossing.
The Ministry states that Pireva had been traveling toward Bujanoc together with his wife and their children. According to officials, after being questioned for about four hours, he was released and is now free.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora strongly condemns the ongoing actions of the Serbian authorities, which constitute mistreatment of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and are in contradiction with the agreements signed between the two states. The MFA urges citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to avoid traveling through Serbian territory until further notice, in order to ensure their safety,” the statement reads.
