The Football Association of Slovenia confirmed today that Matjaž Kek is no longer the national team’s coach.
According to the statement, Keku’s contract expired on November 30th.
“After discussions, the President of the Football Association of Slovenia and Matjaž Kek decided that after seven years of very good and fair cooperation, which brought success in the European Championship qualifiers and the round of 16, the cooperation would be terminated,” the statement said.
The Slovenian Federation thanked Kek for his work and achievements, which, it added, will forever be written in the history of the Slovenian national team.
“After a long time, the Slovenian national football team was once again part of the European football map and in the company of the best national teams. We particularly appreciate the way the national team connected with the fans during this period and together with them created an unforgettable atmosphere in the stadiums at home and in Germany,” it states.
The Slovenian national team will play its next match on March 23, 2026, so the Football Association will “conduct the process of selecting a new coach without time pressure and with all the care that such a decision requires.”
