The Clinical and University Hospital Service of Kosovo has announced that the advanced procedure has been performed for the first time in the country at the Clinical and University Center of Kosovo. The patient, who two years ago had suffered acute aortic dissection and had undergone surgery abroad to replace its ascending part, had a worsening of his condition due to enlargement of the aortic root, aortic arch, and damage to the aortic valve, requiring complex re-surgical intervention, reports the Telegraph.

The operation was performed by a team led by Prof. Dr. Omer Xhemali, Director of Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital of Zurich and leader of the Alliance for Cardiac Surgery in Zurich, together with Dr. Petar Risteski and anesthesiologist Dr. Bettex Dominique, in collaboration with the local team of cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists of the UCCK.

According to SHSKUK, such operations are among the most complex in the field of Cardiac Surgery and are usually performed only in excellent high-level centers.

This success is considered an important step towards advancing cardiac surgical procedures in Kosovo, thanks to collaboration with prestigious international clinics.

The Clinical Cardiac Surgery Service at UCCK has informed citizens that all cases requiring treatment for heart diseases can be referred to UCCK, without the need for treatment abroad. /Telegraph/
