Loved being outdoors so much decided to move there permanently 10 years ago. Everything about this lifestyle has a deep connection to nature. Home heated by firewood, washing oursleves in the lakeside sauna, eating natures gifts to us. Even to take a poop we must walk to the edge of our yard to use the outdoor composting toilet. Taking care of garden and growin as much crops as possible, returning the nutrients from the toilet. Fishing, hunting, gathering, gardening, all of it is daily life now. Trying our best to live off the land, and build from materials nature has to offer. Stones, wood, moss, clay.. Being part of nature and participating in the cycle of it. Not exploiting it for hedonistic and materialistic desires.
To be honest, this lifestyle change healed me from severe depression. Maybe this is not for everyone, but let me share our little piece of paradise. A 1,5hectare/3,7acre private island on a medium size lake in central Finland. Working real hard to never have to return to city life.

Here in New Hampshire USA that would be a multi million dollar property. And also there would be very few chances to ever buy one. or no chances.
Central Finland? I assume the lake freezes over for a good few months? How do you deal with that?

Fantastic. As an American with access to large family compound (Main house and several cabins) on Vajasallo I guessed immediately this was Finland. I love midsummer there but you are pretty bold staying year round. Very cool!
