Students on lockdown in Serbia announced a large protest on their official Instagram account for December 28. As they wrote, it is time to get involved and connect across Serbia.

“It’s time to get involved and connect, because only together can we declare victory. See you all over Serbia on December 28th,” they wrote.

The students told Nova.rs yesterday that “although it seems like they have ‘gone quiet’ now, they are actually just preparing for something bigger and more massive.”

At the same time, N1 reports, they emphasized that they will monitor the situation with the General Staff, and that if there is pressure from the state regarding this cultural building, there will be protests.

“If they start putting more pressure on the General Staff, then there will be protests about it. Apart from the program, at the moment all our focus is on the fight to protect the General Staff and preserve the cultural and historical heritage. We believe that the situation with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and the pressures they are exposed to is extremely serious and requires full public attention. Therefore, our priority is to protect history, the right to memory and the public interest. We will inform the public in a timely manner about the specific steps and actions we are preparing,” they said.

They also added that they will not give up on the demands they have regarding the General Staff.

“Our demands are the abolition of the so-called lex specialis for the General Staff complex and plot, the annulment of the illegal decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and the restoration of the status of cultural property to the General Staff. We also demand the completion of the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime into the forgery of the document by which the Government of Serbia revoked the status of cultural property to the General Staff in November 2024.”
