Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of three chambers under the Dubai Chambers umbrella, has announced the establishment of the Cyprus Business Council, a new platform designed to strengthen cooperation between the business communities of Dubai and Cyprus. The council will focus on expanding trade and investment flows and promoting partnerships across key economic sectors.

Trade growth underscores Dubai’s strategic role

The launch highlights Dubai’s position as a leading international hub for Cypriot businesses. In 2024, non-oil trade between Dubai and Cyprus reached AED 588 million, reflecting steady growth in commercial exchange.

As of the end of Q3 2025, 612 Cypriot companies were registered as active members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, including 71 new companies that joined during the first nine months of the year.

Inaugural AGM draws senior officials

The Cyprus Business Council held its first Annual General Meeting recently, attended by George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus. Other participants included Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and Maha Al Gargawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers.

Papanastasiou said: “The Cyprus Business Council provides a structured platform for businesses, investors, and innovators from both countries to connect, exchange knowledge, and create joint ventures that promote sustainable growth, technology transfer, and shared prosperity.

“Its establishment is a tangible step forward in strengthening the economic bridge between Cyprus and the UAE, proving that when there are result-oriented collaboration and strong dedication at both the policy and technical levels, great things can happen quickly and effectively.”

Speaking at the AGM, Al Gargawi stressed the pivotal role of Business Councils in connecting Dubai with international companies and investors. She highlighted their contribution to expanding cooperation with global markets and reaffirmed Dubai Chambers’ commitment to enhancing their effectiveness in advancing the emirate’s trade and investment relations worldwide.

Business Councils under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce represent the interests of companies and investors from specific global markets operating in Dubai. Working closely with the chamber, they aim to boost bilateral trade and investment and contribute to building long-term, resilient economic partnerships.
